Paying attention is part of the job. When I'm shooting it's the small details of life that make up the story. It doesn't matter if it's a wedding, newborn, senior or boudoir the little details of the day compounded make life magical. It's my job, as a photographer, to capture these. It's what distinguishes a person who "takes pictures" from an artist.

Today the sun is shining, which is a near miracle here in Portland in Feb, and I'm making the time to go outside and enjoy. See, the problem with paying attention is actually having time to do so. I know it seems crazy but with all the electronic distractions I have (2 computers, 3 email accounts, 3 facebook pages, 2 twitter accounts, iphone, clients and a life) it's occasionally hard to "pay attention" to my little things. As an artist some of my best creative moments, ideas and drive come from taking a break and clearing my mind. This morning I'm going to take a hour to do so and I can already feel my soul smile.

Paying attention and being able to see the details is so worth it. This was a happy find in Laurelhurst Park in SE Portland during a bride and groom first look. If I was just "taking pictures" there is no way I would have seen this. Cheers to paying attention to life!

Let's do this together! Take a moment for yourself today. Take a little breather and treat yourself to coffee at sit down to enjoy it, call a old friend to listen, read an actual paper, stare out the window and dream and don't feel guilty. Come tell me what you discovered via email or comment- I can't wait to see what you come up with! See you back here in a hour, umk?
