When I was just starting my business I attended a PPO convention in Bend, OR. While it was great to network and meet wonderful people one of the many nuggets of info I took away was "shoot for yourself." I've since heard this repeated and repeated the more I attend conferences. Essentially, it's encouraging my very core to be the artist I've been created to be. Shocking, I know, but when you own your own business, are a wife, daughter, sister and friend often times your self comes very last on the list.

A treasured friend and mentor once asked me what would I do today if I were to be loved like a child. How would I experience the world, how could I be loved like a child? My answer; freedom. Free to do what I want without guilt, expectation, time constraints and not care if I mess up. Sounds lovely, right? When I shoot for myself I want the above list to come out. I want to make images that are more of me and therefore more creative then I could have been given my above laundry list. Anyone feel me on this? Come on, don't be shy. How much of your life is spend doing things because other people want you to? Well, stop it. Take some time and enjoy the beautiful creation that is YOU.

All that aside, I'm working on a personal project. Visually is has nothing to do with people.... or does it? I hope to share a portion of this project at my upcoming show on April 1st. No, it's not a April Fools joke. I will actually have a show and I'll be sharing more on that later. For now, I'll preview one of the pieces.... Take some time to stare at it and develop your own opinions.

What does the image below remind you of?

it reminds me of my sister and brother growing up... the 3 of us spent our summers in the pool. mom would bring us lemonade and snacks to eat in between pool games such as marco polo and shark.

This reminds me of Melissa! Reason #1: it's bright, summery and sunshine colored, and Melissa thirsts for sunshine like water. Reason #2: it's artistically simple, modern and fresh, aka, Melissa, Melissa and Melissa. Reason #3: Melissa made me carry a basket of lemons at my amazing engagement photo shoot, and the pics turned out fab! BTW, who took this picture???
